Brookes Barrack

Pediatric and Adolescent Speech Language Pathologist

Brookes Barrack, MS CCC-SLP has almost 20 years of experience working with children on the autism spectrum and with a variety of speech/language disorders. She graduated from Rockhurst University in 2003 with a Master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She has worked in a variety of pediatric settings including home-based, outpatient clinics, preschools, and elementary schools. Brookes authored the chapter on Autism Spectrum Disorders in the Communication Disorders Casebook. She is trained as a PLAY Project Home Consultant and is one of only two therapists in KS and MO to hold an Advanced DIR/Floortime certificate from the Interdisciplinary Council on Development and Learning. Brookes encourages families to provide a robust language system, whether that is pictures, sign language or a speech generating device, to their children while working to improve spoken language skills. She also completed the Visualizing and Verbalizing training and uses those techniques with children and adolescents in order to increase reading comprehension. Brookes opened KC:DT in 2009 and is thrilled by the growth of evidence-based relationship-based, developmental driven services in the KC Metro since then. She is a believer in neurodiversity-affirming approaches. Brookes is married and is a mom of three.
